PSD to XHTML and CSS

Most people who search for PSD to XHTML today are in one of three positions. They are extending a site built years ago and need new pages that match its doctype. They are feeding markup into a toolchain that parses XML strictly and breaks on an unclosed tag. Or they have inherited a specification written a long time ago and nobody has revisited the wording.

We handle all three, and we tell you which one you are in before you pay for anything. If your requirement is really the third — a specification that says XHTML because it was written in 2009 — we will point that out and quote you for semantic HTML5 instead. Charging you for an obsolete deliverable you do not need is not a business we want.

Where XHTML is genuinely required, the discipline is real work. Every element closed, every attribute quoted and lower-case, every value present, entities escaped properly, and a document that parses as XML rather than merely rendering in a browser that has forgiven you. Modern build tools do not enforce this by default, so it is written and checked by hand.

The styling side is not stuck in the past. Well-formed XHTML says nothing about your CSS, so the layout still uses flexbox and grid, the type scale still uses relative units, and the page is still responsive and accessible. You get a document that satisfies a strict parser without inheriting a float-based layout from a decade ago.

The same quality bar applies as on every other service line: W3C validated, tested across current browsers, keyboard accessible, and built to WCAG 2.2 AA. Legacy doctype, current standards.

Two things worth knowing before you commit to this route.

XHTML served as text/html is parsed by browsers as HTML regardless of your doctype, so the strictness buys you nothing at render time — its value is entirely in the toolchain that consumes the file. If nothing downstream parses your markup as XML, the requirement is almost certainly historical.

And if you are planning a rebuild rather than an extension, start from HTML5. It is the living standard, it is what search engines and AI crawlers are built to read, and it supports semantic elements, native form validation and modern layout that XHTML 1.0 never described.
