PSD to Drupal development
A custom Drupal theme built as components — Twig, Single Directory Components and themed Views that scale with your content model.
Drupal is chosen for the sites where the content model is the hard part: governments, universities, health services and global brands with deep taxonomies, editorial workflow and strict compliance obligations. Theming it well means theming the structure, not just the pages.
That distinction matters more in Drupal than in most systems. A page in Drupal is assembled from nodes, fields, blocks, views and paragraphs, each of which renders through its own template. A theme that only styles finished pages breaks the moment an editor builds a layout nobody anticipated. We theme at the component level, so anything your editors assemble comes out looking right.
We build with Single Directory Components, which is the most useful thing to happen to Drupal theming in years. Each component keeps its Twig template, CSS, JavaScript and schema in one folder, with typed props declared up front. A card is one directory you can read, reuse and delete — rather than a template in one place, styles in another and a preprocess function in a third.
Views get themed deliberately rather than left to fall back on defaults. Listings, teasers, filters, exposed forms and pagination are all styled to your design, because on a large Drupal site views are what most of the public actually sees. Paragraph types and Layout Builder sections are themed too, so the flexible authoring your editors were promised produces pages that still match the brand.
Accessibility is not an add-on here, it is usually a legal requirement. Public sector bodies across the UK and EU have statutory obligations, the European Accessibility Act has applied to a wide range of consumer services since June 2025, and university procurement almost always specifies a conformance level. We build to WCAG 2.2 AA and test with a keyboard and a screen reader before handover, not after an audit finds problems.
Performance is handled the Drupal way: render caching and cache tags declared correctly so pages invalidate precisely when their content changes rather than being flushed wholesale, aggregated and minified assets, lazy-loaded images below the fold, and no jQuery dependency inherited from habit. It is what keeps a content-heavy site inside Core Web Vitals thresholds under real traffic.
You receive a custom theme rather than a heavily patched contributed one — no base theme you will have to fight, and a structure a Drupal developer can pick up without a handover call.
What the theme includes
- A custom theme built on Twig, not a patched contributed theme
- Single Directory Components with typed props, so each component is self-contained
- Regions mapped to your design, with block layout configured for each
- Views, teasers, exposed filters and pagination themed rather than left as defaults
- Paragraph types and Layout Builder sections styled so editor-built pages stay on brand
- Render caching and cache tags declared correctly for precise invalidation
- WCAG 2.2 AA, verified with keyboard and screen reader testing before handover
Running Drupal 7 or 9? Both are end of life. We quote the theme rebuild alongside the upgrade so you are not paying to theme a platform you are about to leave.
