AI-assisted front-end development

AI does the repetitive work. A human front-end developer reviews every line before it reaches you. Faster and cheaper, with the same standard.

We use AI tooling every day, and we are direct about what it is good at. It is genuinely fast at scaffolding, boilerplate and repetitive markup. It is unreliable at exactly the things clients hire us for — spacing precision, semantic structure, accessibility and cross-browser behaviour.

So we use it where it helps and check it where it does not. A first pass gets generated in minutes rather than hours, and a front-end developer then works through it against your design: correcting the spacing scale, replacing generic divs with the right elements, fixing focus order, and testing on real browsers and devices.

That review is not a formality. In practice a meaningful share of generated markup needs correcting before it meets our standard — most often heading hierarchy that jumps levels, divs standing in for buttons, colour combinations that fail contrast, and spacing that is close but not correct.

What you get from the arrangement is time and cost. Pages start at $39 rather than $49 and typical turnaround shortens by roughly a day on a multi-page project, because the tedious part of the work is no longer done by hand.

What does not change is the standard. The delivered markup is still hand-verified, still W3C validated, still tested across browsers and real devices, and still accessible. If AI cannot produce something that meets that bar, a developer writes it.

We will also tell you when this route is the wrong one. Highly bespoke layouts, intricate animation and complex interactive components are usually faster and better written by hand from the start, and we will say so rather than sell you the cheaper line.

This is also how we handle the hardest inputs. Converting a bare screenshot is mostly measurement work, and the generated first pass genuinely helps — see image to HTML for how that one runs.

If you would rather no AI tooling touched your project at all, say so in the brief and we will build it entirely by hand at our standard rate. Some clients need that for contractual reasons and it is never a problem.

Where AI helps, and where it does not

  • Helps: scaffolding page structure, repetitive markup, boilerplate config, first-pass utility classes
  • Helps: converting long content tables and repeated card patterns at speed
  • Does not: spacing precision against a design file — it approximates, and approximation is visible
  • Does not: semantic structure and heading hierarchy, which it routinely gets wrong
  • Does not: accessibility — generated markup regularly fails contrast and keyboard operation
  • Does not: cross-browser and real-device behaviour, which still has to be tested by a person

Every project on this service line is reviewed line by line by a front-end developer before handover. Nothing ships straight from a model.

FAQ

AI-Assisted Development — questions we get asked

Is my design or code sent to an AI service?
Only when you agree to it. If your brief requires that no third-party tooling sees your files, we build entirely by hand at our standard rate — just tell us and we will note it on the project.
Is the quality lower than a hand-built page?
No. The acceptance standard is identical: pixel-accurate, W3C validated, accessible and cross-browser tested. AI changes how the first draft is produced, not what we are willing to hand over.
Why is it cheaper?
Because the repetitive portion of the build takes less time. The review, testing and correction still take a developer the same amount of care, which is why the saving is real but not enormous.
When would you recommend against it?
Highly bespoke layouts, intricate animation and complex interactive components. On those, hand-writing from the start is faster than correcting a generated draft, and we will tell you so.
